Otarmeni treats genetic hearing loss, a condition where damaged or missing genes impair the ear's ability to detect sound, potentially affecting speech development in children and social connection in adults. The therapy delivers a functional copy of a key hearing-related gene directly to inner ear cells using a modified virus as a delivery vehicle. By restoring the missing genetic instructions, Otarmeni may help the ear process sound signals more effectively—potentially improving hearing ability in those with certain inherited forms of the condition.
