IgA nephropathy is a kidney and immune-system disease in which inflammation damages the glomeruli, the tiny filtering units that clean the blood, and aggressive cases can also attack organs such as the liver, skin, and heart. Trutakna (atacicept-vymj) is a lab-made protein that binds and blocks two immune signals, BLyS and APRIL, that tell B cells to multiply and produce antibodies. Because IgA nephropathy is driven by faulty antibody buildup in the kidney, quieting those B cells could reduce that supply at its source and may help slow the kidney damage.
