Thyroid eye disease is an autoimmune condition in which the body's immune system attacks the tissues around and behind the eye, causing swelling, redness, and bulging that can threaten vision. Lumvoa is a lab-made antibody that binds to IGF-1R, a receptor on cells in the eye socket, blocking a signal that drives this inflammation and tissue buildup. Because that same signal appears to be active in both the early inflammatory and later scarred stages of the disease, Lumvoa may help adults whose symptoms have persisted long after the initial flare.
