Read original at drugs.com ↗ Background Drug-class context · Wikipedia Veligrotug (sold under the brand Lumvoa) is an intravenously-infused monoclonal antibody that blocks the insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R), a receptor implicated in the orbital inflammation and tissue remodelling that drives thyroid eye disease (TED). TED is an autoimmune disorder typically associated with Graves' disease in which orbital fibroblasts overexpress IGF-1R, leading to proptosis (eye bulging), diplopia (double vision), and in severe cases vision-threatening compressive optic neuropathy. Lumvoa is the first approved TED therapy with labelling that covers BOTH active (early inflammatory) and chronic (post-inflammatory fibrotic) stages of the disease, distinguishing it from the prior standard-of-care biologic teprotumumab (Tepezza, Amgen) whose primary trial data sit in the active stage.
